First United Methodist Church

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Chicago, Windy City a Michigan Beauty
Across the street, the Gothic skyscraper you see is actually a church! That’s right! In fact, it’s the tallest church in the world, with its bell tower rising to 173 metres! However, when it comes to comparing the heights of cathedrals, Chicago’s Temple is disqualified, as only the first 5 floors are dedicated to the church, the rest being private offices. Still, if you’d like to see what the inside looks like, don’t hesitate to drop in – it’s amazing! The magnificent stained glass windows are bathed in artificial light. Indeed, it was not possible to make large windows in a structure that would support so many floors! The wooden beams are also an imitation, in fact they are metal beams covered in wood. Nonetheless, the result is stunning, so don’t hesitate! Right next door, in the space between the two buildings, you’ll find a bronze statue by Spanish artist Miro. She is Miss Chicago!
