You’re now standing on the site of the old swing bridge, where in 2018 a new piece of lively and poetic public art was added to brighten up the heart of Troyes. It’s called “Wait For Me”. It shows a little dog startling a flock of birds into flight. The sculpture is by Belgian artist Tom Frantzen, known for his playful creations that seem almost alive. The geese here also remind us of another iconic bird—the crane—which migrates over the Aube region every year. These majestic birds travel from Scandinavia and northeastern Europe to winter in France, Spain, and North Africa. They return in late February, and if you’re here at the right time, you might see between 200,000 and 400,000 cranes soaring over Troyes. It’s a breathtaking sight.
