This charming little square brings you face to face with Saint-Nizier Church. Its colorful roof might remind you of the Hospices de Beaune, and that’s no coincidence—it features the same traditional Burgundian style with its beautifully glazed tiles. The current church dates back to the 16th century, but it was named much earlier, in the 5th century, when the relics of Archbishop Nizier of Lyon—who was deeply venerated in the region—were brought to the earlier Church of Saint-Maur that once stood here. Inside, you’ll find another remarkable set of stained-glass windows, illustrating scenes from both the Old and New Testaments, as well as legends from Troyes. The square itself was pedestrianised in 2001 and features three elegant bronze sculptures inspired by works from renowned artists of the Aube region, whose originals you can also admire at the Saint-Loup Museum.
