On your right, you pass the fascinating Museum of Tools and Workers’ Thought. This moving museum offers a collection unique in the world, gathering 12,000 hand-crafting tools dating from the 17th to the 19th century. Presented in display cases, they immerse us in the lives and craftsmanship of our ancestors, helping us understand the psychology and intellect that accompanies manual work. It’s an exciting and necessary place of shared knowledge. The museum, which has an entrance fee, is located in a jewel of Champagne architecture, the Hôtel Mauroy. External access is free and will allow you to admire the work and craftsmanship of the “compagnons du devoir”; traditional French craftsmen guild members, who skillfully renovated the place in 1969.
