Kannon-do Temple

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Tokyo, The Phoenix City
Built in 1631 by Tenkai, founder of the Tendai sect, Kannon-dō Temple is one of the oldest surviving structures in Tokyo. Unlike many of its counterparts, this wooden sanctuary has stood through time, only restored to return to its original form. Nonetheless, what’s truly astonishing of this site is the pine tree standing just before you—shaped centuries ago, during the Edo period. You’ve probably already guessed it, this tree was trimmed into a circle to look like a full moon. A symbol of harmony and good fortune, the pine was planted here to bring blessings to all who visit. It is said that this temple once served as a pilgrimage site for women who wished to conceive, coming here to pray for fertility before this symbolic pine tree. Yet again, you’ve stumbled upon another milestone in Tokyo, a spiritual place deeply significant in the past.
