Váci Utca Street

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Budapest, Visiting the Queen of the Danube
Running parallel to the Danube, Váci Utca is one of the best-known and most visited streets in Budapest. Without it, the city centre wouldn’t be the same! Back in medieval times, Hungary’s capital was surrounded by a city wall, and this street led to one of the city’s main gates. It served a huge practical purpose, but it wasn’t nearly as famous as it is now. In the 18th century, the street underwent a major renovation. By the 19th and 20th centuries, it finally became known for its commercial reputation. And it has only grown since. While the street was once full of city representatives, they moved elsewhere to make way for all kinds of businesses. These included shopping centres, restaurants, international brands, souvenir shops… Here, shops rule the streets. However, there are still plenty of traces of the street’s former elegance. Just look at the first floor of the buildings—you’ll see richly decorated façades, adorned with paintings and statues.
