Fisherman’s Bastion

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Budapest, Visiting the Queen of the Danube
Welcome to one of Budapest’s most popular tourist attractions, the Fisherman’s Bastion. It’s better known for it’s beautiful architecture, rather than its history. Completed in 1902 after nearly two decades of construction, this fairytale-like walkway was built as a tribute to the ancestors of the Hungarian people. These were called the Magyar, and they arrived here over a thousand years ago, forming what we now know as Hungary. The structure’s seven conical towers represent the seven Magyar tribes. Even though it’s called a bastion, its never been used for defence. Although the name’s origins aren’t fully confirmed, it’s believed that the site was once home to a medieval fish market, hence the fishermen reference. The views from the top are spectacular. This scenic lookout is often used for wedding photos — making it a magical place to pause for a moment. To kill two birds with one stone, we recommend heading there just before sunset for a stunning photo of the city, and to explore the remarkable site for free!
