United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Washington, Where American Democracy was born
On your right is the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The main entrance is on the other side of the building. Opened in 1993, it was designed by architect James Ingo Freed and features documents, research, artefacts and collections on the Holocaust. The museum retraces this dark period, from Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in 1933 to the liberation of the concentration camps—highlighting the Resistance movement against the Nazis. This is the official United States memorial for the millions of Jews and other populations who were deported, killed, and persecuted by Nazi Germany. You should definitely visit this museum if you want to watch historical films and hear powerful testimonies about one of the most significant events in history.
