The War Memorial is in the middle of this roundabout, which connects Brillier Avenue to Romestang Avenue. Installed here in 1923, this large statue pays tribute to the victims of World War I, and depicts an angel, designed by twentieth-century Viennese sculptor Claude Grange. With his arms open towards Brillier Avenue, the angel greets those entering Vienne. Inspired by the Greek sculpture “Winged Victory of Samothrace”, this statue displays the words “Passant, souviens-toi” , meaning “Passerby, remember” is and Considered one of France’s most remarkable war memorials it is symbolic for the city of Vienne and is actually listed as a Historical Monument. Located across the railway station and between two of Vienne’s main streets, it’s impossible to miss !
