Parc des Sources Bandstand

Before you is the bandstand of the Parc des Sources which might easily go unnoticed. It’s hidden in plain sight, blending seamlessly into the cityscape. Believe it or not, this edifice is very rich in history. Back in the 19th century, when the city was booming as a spa town, it decided to spice things up with some entertainment options. You see, Vichy took great care to cater to its spa guests’ diverse needs. They wanted to keep them amused, and what better way than with some live music? These musical gatherings became a favorite pastime, especially for those eagerly waiting for their spa treatment. What truly set them apart was their stellar lineup of musicians, including several laureates from the Paris Conservatory. The bandstand has been dismantled, relocated, and even rebuilt over the years. It got its current look back in 1902. In fact, this structure and its look-alike in the Parc des Bourins are the only ones remaining from the original seven bandstands that dotted Vichy in the last century. While not as bustling as it once was, this kiosk still comes alive with a few concerts during the summer.
