Hall des Sources

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Vichy, The Water Frenzy
Vichy’s identity shines brightly at the Hall des Sources. Here, you’ll find all that makes this town so famous. Built between 1898 and 1903, this elegant pavilion, made entirely from glass and steel, houses 5 springs whose waters are known for their health benefits to people who drink them. You can choose between the Célestins, Lucas, Hôpital, Chomel and Grande Grille springs – each with its unique properties. Though this place was inspired by German and Austro-Hungarian spa resorts, its glass panes and its central glass roof, added in 1928, hint at Italian influences. Stretching along both sides is a 700-meter covered gallery winding its way along the park’s contours. But these walkways weren’t just for bad weather! This was where the great ladies of yesteryear came to protect themselves from the scorching sun. You see, back in the early 19th century, having a pale complexion was a coveted status symbol, a sign you belonged to the upper class, as opposed to the sun-kissed skin of outdoor laborers like farmers. Before you leave, be sure to take a sip of these miraculous waters and snap a quick souvenir photo with the beautiful drinking fountain and the impressive glass roof towering above.
