The Grand Canal

It may as well be one of the most beautiful avenues in the world. Stunning churches and palaces line its waters, like trees lining a road. The Grand Canal is usually the first thing you’ll see in Venice, stretching four kilometres and cutting the city in two. This huge canal is impossible to miss, beloved by both locals and tourists. Vaporettos, gondolas, and boats of all shapes and sizes flow through here all day long. Despite a lack of any signs, there has only been one major technical accident — in August 2013. The Grand Canal and its spectacular views can be enjoyed both on water and on land. Whether you’re at the canal’s banks, or on one of its four bridges, the place never loses its charm.
