The Campanile of San Giorgio

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Venice, At one with the “Serenissima”
Standing across the canal, you can see a tower rising into the sky. It’s actually a bell tower called the Campanile of San Giorgio, located on the island of the same name. It’s the city’s third tallest tower, reaching 63 metres high, and it’s quite handy for getting your bearings—even from the opposite bank. Despite the solid red brick and stone architecture, the building has had an unstable history. Two earlier versions of the bell tower collapsed, one in 1442 and the other in 1774, but not because of the lagoon or an earthquake. It was actually the wind that crushed both the bell tower and a monk in its wrath. So… it may be safer admired from afar.
