Constable Tower
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Vannes, The city of the Veneti
The medieval tower standing in front of you is the Constable Tower. It dates back to the first half of the 15th century, and although it was also a defensive tower, its main purpose was to provide accommodation for Constable Arthur de Richemont.
You might be asking yourself, ‘All right, but what’s a constable? Well, he was the supreme commander of armies, specifically those of the Duke of Brittany! Following its ownership by the town, the tower has been completely restored and now hosts temporary exhibitions and guided tours. For those interested, you know where to go! Bear in mind that the back of the tower also gives you access to the ramparts, in case you want to come back later.
For now, continue through the gardens to our next point of interest, a little further from here.
