Sometimes (it’s hard to admit), we choose a destination exclusively based on the quality of its food. Thus, the city of Vannes may have attracted you thanks to its quality dishes, its meals made with fresh products, its pursuit of beauty in the presentation of the plates… Restaurateurs are known for being very dedicated to and passionate about what they define as their art. If you are strolling through the city streets, take a detour to Rue de la Boucherie. And we can already reassure you: you won’t only find meat there, but also excellent restaurants offering dishes that are as good as they are beautiful. If you are looking for a somewhat relaxed and warm atmosphere, head to Rue du Poignant. Legend has it that this is primarily where the best scallops in the region are savored. Enjoy your meal!
Finding good accommodation, or rather a good hotel for your stay, can sometimes be a little difficult. You have to make choices, comparisons… How hard it is to judge correctly! However, Navaway is your best travel companion for a reason. Avenue Favrel et Lincy Place de la Gare offers four-star establishments with good value for money. The hotels benefit from a whole range of services designed for the well-being of their guests. In addition to this, you will be very close to popular monuments to visit in the region. There is also Place de la Libération, which is in the city center. It is undoubtedly the place that welcomes the most travelers: comfortable, affordable in terms of price, offering a setting that is both family-friendly, but also knowing how to be cozy and intimate for couples… We recommend it!
Know that there are several means of transport available for getting around Vannes and its surroundings. First of all, your own two feet! That’s right, a city is best explored on foot. Vannes is pleasant to walk through, and this will allow you to linger longer at the different places to explore. However, many travelers prefer to rent a car starting from Vannes train station. This makes things easier if you want, for example, to plan a day trip around Vannes, which involves covering a few kilometers. You will just need to book a hotel with parking. You can also opt for a cheaper option: traveling by bus. The Kicéo bus network serves the city center of Vannes, but also its surrounding areas. So take advantage of the opportunity! There are also self-service bikes: these electrically assisted machines are very popular with visitors, who rent them regularly.
Over the course of a weekend, in other words, about 48 hours, there is plenty of time to explore Vannes and visit its most famous monuments and squares. For your first day, there’s nothing better than exploring the city’s historic center. This town is described as embodying all “the charms of Brittany,” and you will quickly understand why: its paved streets, its marina, its cozy little restaurants, its Gothic churches famous throughout France… There is plenty to learn, plenty to explore, and plenty to remember with a quick camera “click.” For your second day, discover one of the islands in the Gulf of Morbihan: Île d’Arz. By boat, it is easily accessible from the city of Vannes, and the trip doesn’t take long. It is possible to tour the entire coastline in a single day, as it is small, yet pleasant to visit on foot. It’s typically the kind of activity that is ideal for summer!
Rain is often synonymous with boredom, gloom, and napping. However, it is possible for you to leave your accommodation in Vannes and have fun in the city, despite the few raindrops teasing the blue sky. You just need to have the right ideas: the place that most certainly welcomes the most visitors in Vannes when it rains is undoubtedly the Escape Game. Immerse yourself in a unique and original setting, and try as a group to solve the puzzles specific to a particular universe. It won’t be easy, but it will allow you to test everyone’s loyalty while exercising your clever mind. In terms of uncommon activities, there is the Cité du Caramel Carabreizh. This is quite simply a special moment in the heart of a factory to better understand the expertise behind this delicious treat, including some tasting moments!
To get to Vannes, you can use either the train or the bus. Indeed, every day, there are four trains and two coaches that stop in the city. The train is THE most ecological, fastest, and most comfortable means of transport. At 300 km/h, you will arrive at your destination and can leave the railway stations by taxi to reach your hotel. The city of Vannes is connected to the cities of Rennes, Paris, and even Nantes. The bus, meanwhile, is certainly slower, but also pleasant. It is one of the cheapest means of transport and is perfectly suited for those who travel in a group, or with family, and who do not want to blow their budget. It also allows you to talk, get to know your fellow travelers, and admire the landscape offered to you through the vehicle’s windows.
Vannes has many hidden gems. First and foremost, you should head to the Petit Passeur Saint-Armel. This will allow you to take a pleasant stroll along the paths of the Peninsula. Cyclists adore this area, which offers a true breath of fresh air, as well as a special moment with nature, far from the sometimes incessant hustle and bustle of big cities. Also, visiting the surroundings of Vannes means visiting the Gulf of Morbihan, one of the most beautiful places in Brittany. With your backpack fully packed, this is a place composed of nearly 300 islands and small islets, which visitors love to explore by boat. A day on Île aux Moines or Berder will allow you to escape and explore unique places on foot, which have helped make the Gulf of Morbihan “one of the most beautiful bays in the world” since 2012. A perfect activity for those with an adventurous soul, and who love hiking, sports, and sailing.
The ramparts of the city of Vannes are undoubtedly the very last fortifications still present in Brittany. Thus, if you had to start with one thing to see in the city, it would certainly be this. It is somewhat the emblem of the Vannes heritage itself. Designed a long time ago by the Romans, the ramparts were intended to protect the inhabitants and the city. During your visit, discover their history in depth and the many adventures the city has known. In one day, you can also go to the mythical Saint-Pierre Cathedral: its Gothic style delights visitors and stands on the remains of an ancient Roman cathedral. After a delicious lunch in one of the city’s many restaurants, finish your day at La Cohue, which houses the Museum of Fine Arts of Vannes. A unique place that is the pride of the inhabitants of the city of Vannes.
Vannes is a city that offers many varied activities, whether sporting or cultural. This is a particularly relaxing activity that allows you to take a little break from your usual life and routine, and spend some one-on-one time with your significant other.
