This life-size bronze and platinum bull you see on your left is the work of Joe Fafard, the favorite artist of the building’s owner, a certain Mr. Gordon Diamond. This sculpture was installed here in 2001, to replace the more abstract horse sculpture by the late Jack Harman. The bull has nothing to do with Wall Street or the Merry Lynch bank, yet it was repeatedly vandalized due to the misinterpretation. Recently, vandals spray-painted “Greed” on the body of the beast. As a matter of fact, Mr. Gordon Diamond chose to install a bull at the foot of his office because his family has owned a cattle business in Vancouver since the 1930s. He says it brings him good luck to touch the bull on his way to work. A reminder of his roots, linked to the fact that he’s an avid art collector. So now you know what’s behind this enigmatically named statue, Royal Sweet Diamond.
