View from the Fortifications
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Valletta, Step Into the World of the Knights of St. John
Surrounded by 16th-century fortifications and woven with steep, narrow streets, Valletta doesn’t give up its secrets easily. You’ve got to put in a bit of effort to get to know it, but the city will reward you for it.
There are some stunning viewpoints tucked away in quiet corners, that is, if you manage to find them… But don’t worry, there’s no need to play detective, we’re bringing you to one right now.
From where you’re standing, you should have a picture-perfect view of St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral’s elegant spire and the grand dome of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, rising side by side above the city skyline.
Although more discreet, Valletta’s iconic Maltese balconies are just as much a part of the local charm. Built into the buildings’ façades, these loggia-style extensions, made from various materials and once a marker of social status, add a splash of colour and charm to the city’s golden palette.
