Casa Rocca Piccola

10 casa rocca piccola poi grand

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Valletta, Step Into the World of the Knights of St. John

At first glance, Casa Rocca Piccola might look like just another townhouse on a quiet street — but don’t be fooled, it’s one of a kind.

After the Knights of the Order of St John successfully pushed back the Ottoman forces in 1565, Valletta became a prestigious city, destined to rival the great capitals of Europe.

During this period, elegant palaces began to appear along the city’s streets—just like the beautiful Casa Rocca Piccola. Named after its first owner, Admiral Don Pietro de La Rocca, this residence has over 50 rooms, including a chapel, laid out in classic enfilade style, where one room leads directly into another. Some of these rooms are open to the public with the purchase of a ticket, including guided tours led by the Marchioness de Piro, whose noble Maltese family still owns and lives in the house.
