Wilson Bridge

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Tours, The Little Paris
We are on the Wilson Bridge, offering a lovely view of the Loire River banks and an interesting perspective of the National street behind you. Built in 1765, it’s the oldest bridge in Tours, with 15 stone arches spanning the Loire. Locals simply call it “the stone bridge,” although it was named in honor of Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States and an important ally of France during World War I. The bridge did collapse in 1978, but thankfully, no one was hurt! In a referendum, local residents got to decide what to do with it. They chose to reinforce what hadn’t fallen to preserve the ancient stone and rebuild the rest in concrete. It is now classified as a historical monument. We’ll now follow the quays to the right of the bridge, but do note that the Loire Riverbanks on the other side are also well-equipped. Don’t hesitate to venture over there. You’ll find a charming guinguette where you can grab a bite to eat or have a drink, listen to live music, or simply enjoy the view of the river.
