The Capitoline Arcades

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Toulouse, The Pink City
Time to look up, literally, and relive the history of Toulouse! The Arcades gallery, created in 1997 during construction works on the Capitole square, features 29 paintings and as many scenes recounting the city’s history. The journey begins with Venus de Lespugue, a sculpture found in a 20,000-year-old prehistoric cave, and ends with the Stade Toulousain, the city’s rugby union club. Let’s embark on a colorful journey that will take us back to the Crusades, the trade of woad plants used to make textile dye, the birth of tango singer Carlos Gardel, the aerospace and even Nougaro’s song O Toulouse… For security reasons, each work comes in three copies, and the originals, like the serigraphs, are housed in the Paul Dupuy Museum.
