Saint-François-de-Paule Church

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Toulon, the Historic Naval City
This beautiful church on Place Saint-Louis was built in the 18th century, replacing a chapel that stood here for over a hundred years. Its style is baroque, inspired by Roman and Piedmontese architecture, with a distinctive curved porch that makes it truly stand out.
Today, it’s officially listed as a Historic Monument. Like much of Toulon, the church suffered heavy damage during World War II, and many of its treasures were lost, including the frescoes that adorned its walls.
After years of careful restoration, it slowly regained its former grandeur. Worship resumed here in 1967, and the church has since become one of the city’s most important and beloved places of worship, located just a short walk from the harbour.
