Opéra

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Toulon, the Historic Naval City
This magnificent building is the Toulon Opera House. Built in 1862, it was originally designed to seat nearly 1,800 people, just a hundred fewer than the famous Opéra Garnier in Paris.
With its elegant neoclassical style, it stands proudly on Place Victor Hugo as one of Toulon’s key cultural landmarks. The venue, designed for opera by architect Léon Feuchère, opened its doors after two years of construction.
Today, it seats around 1,330 people and features one of the steepest auditoriums in France. That dramatic slope gives the space an incredible sense of depth, guaranteeing a great view from every seat.
The acoustics are just as impressive. It’s no surprise that the opera draws over 50,000 visitors a year!
