Mayol Stadium

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Toulon, the Historic Naval City
Calling all rugby fans! You’re now standing in front of the legendary Stade Mayol, a true symbol of Toulon.
Built in 1919, Félix Mayol, a local singer and devoted rugby fan, donated the land to the Toulon Rugby Club. Look to the right of the entrance and you’ll see his portrait, complete with a sprig of lily of the valley on his jacket, a flower that became the club’s emblem thanks to him.
Above the gate, you’ll spot the club’s logo with the letters “RCT” and the same iconic lily of the valley. This historic team ranks among the greats of French rugby, as shown by the inscriptions on the arch. They’ve won multiple European cups and national championships, so it’s no surprise that the club is deeply rooted in Toulon’s identity. In fact, this stadium was the first in the world to be built in the heart of a city, just steps from the harbour!
Bombed heavily during World War II, it was later rebuilt and hosted legendary rugby matches, as well as major concerts, with stars like Johnny Hallyday and Bob Marley performing here. With nearly 18,000 seats, Stade Mayol continues to draw crowds of passionate supporters year after year.
