Toronto City Hall

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Toronto, Exploring Eastern Canada
An example of modernism, Toronto City Hall is one of the most recognisable landmarks of the town. Inaugurated in 1965, this impressive structure was born from the largest architecture competition ever held by a city. An international jury, assembled especially for this occasion, had to choose between 520 projects from 42 different countries to crown the winner. Although it’s the fourth building to serve as the city hall over the centuries, this one stands out with its two asymmetrical towers, 70 and 90 meters in height, and its central block housing the municipal council chamber. Some compare this innovative design to the image of an eye, with the pupil at the center and two large semi-circular eyelids around it. Designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1984, the City Hall has also been a movie star, making brief appearances in movies such as Red and Resident Evil: Apocalypse, where it ends up completely destroyed. It has also been depicted as a futuristic building in the Star Trek comic series.
