This significant building is only the southern part of the St. Lawrence complex, and it includes two more structures. Originally Toronto’s first city hall and later the city’s first jail, the idea of housing a large market emerged in 1803. Threatened with demolition several times, the site has remained standing and gained increasing recognition, becoming one of the largest markets of its kind in the southern part of the region. Beloved by both locals and visitors, the grand hall houses over 100 merchants offering a rich and diverse selection of products, spread across two floors.
