Art Gallery of Ontario

08 musee des beaux arts de l ontario poi grand

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Toronto, Exploring Eastern Canada

Known as one of the most beautiful museums in North America, the Art Gallery of Ontario is far from being housed in an old building, contrary to what we might think. The gallery was created in 1990, but not by the municipality or a public institution. This cultural landmark owes its existence to a private group of Canadian citizens committed to promoting art. The museum houses an impressive collection of more than 95,000 works of art, spanning from the 1st century to the present day, all carefully preserved. There’s a variety of permanent and temporary exhibitions where visitors can discover Canadian and Indigenous artists, as well as creators from around the world. Whether they are world-famous figures like Van Gogh, Rodin, and Pissarro or lesser-known talents, all these artists enrich the museum’s collections. This space is open to the public and is free to enter on Thursday afternoons. Designed to bring people together through art, it gives visitors a fresh perspective on the world. Before continuing your visit, don’t miss the Frank Gehry expansion, completed in 2008. This unconventional and dynamic addition showcases the immense talent of the internationally renowned American-Canadian architect. He also designed the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, and the IAC Building in New York.
