Captain Cook’s Ship

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Sydney, Through the neighbourhoods
James Cook is a name forever linked to the city of Sydney, as he was the first European to set foot on these southern lands aboard his ship, the Endeavour, in 1770.
In front of you is a replica of the famous boat, which brought Europeans to Australia. It is docked almost exactly where Captain Cook first set foot to explore the land that is now known as Sydney.
Thanks to searches carried out in Newport Beach, the probable remains of the original ship were discovered. The Endeavour sank in 1778, eight years after Cook’s long travel to Australia.
Unveiled here in 1994, this replica delights boat enthusiasts, explorers, and history lovers alike. It is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum, and with a ticket, you can climb aboard to explore its different rooms and get a sense of life on such a ship in the 18th century.
A true immersion into the life of a world-renowned explorer!
