View from Fonderie Bridge

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Strasbourg, From Petite France to Greater Europe
From the Fonderie bridge, you have a magnificent view of the Courthouse and the Catholic Church of Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune, a beautiful structure built in pink and red brick and crowned with the largest dome in Alsace. I say Catholic church, because we’re also going to see its Protestant namesake. The bridge you’re now crossing was inaugurated in 1893. It fits right in and brings the two districts together, thanks to its single 24-metre arch. The pink sandstone lions guarding its ends have, somewhat unwittingly, given the bridge a rather chucklesome nickname. The locals call it pudelbrücke, which translates to poodle bridge! Well, it’s certainly not the bridge’s proudest moment, is it?
