Plaza de Toros

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Seville, The Princess of the Guadalquivir
You’re now standing in front of one of Seville’s most iconic and visited landmarks: the Plaza de Toros. This is Spain’s largest and most prestigious bullring, especially when it comes to traditional corridas. The arena was built in the 18th century and can hold up to 13,000 spectators. It’s owned by the Real Maestranza, a brotherhood of knights, devoted to promoting equestrian arts and bullfighting and preserving this historic building. The Plaza de Toros is often considered the most beautiful in Spain, known for its golden sand—brought in from the Alcalá quarries—its 116 balconies, and its elegant Baroque façade. It also hosts the world’s largest bullfighting festival, held during Seville’s April Feria. Entry is ticketed and includes access to both the arena and the bullfighting museum.
