Palace of the Marquis de la Motilla

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Seville, The Princess of the Guadalquivir
The elegant building on the corner is the Palace of the Marquis of La Motilla.
Seville is full of grand townhouses like this—true hidden gems that recall a time of prosperity, when the city attracted top Italian and Flemish artists who left behind some of their finest Renaissance masterpieces. Just down the street, you’ll find the Palace of the Countess of Lebrija, home to one of the biggest mosaic collections in the world, and open to visitors. But back to our Marquis. He had this palace built in the early 20th century, during the height of the historicist movement. This trend swept across Europe, reviving artistic styles from earlier periods and giving them a modern twist. There’s no doubt which era the Marquis loved most: the Middle Ages. This striking building was inspired by medieval Italian architecture, and the 25-metre brick tower immediately brings Florence and its famous Palazzo Vecchio to mind.
