Murillo Gardens

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Seville, The Princess of the Guadalquivir
Welcome to the Murillo Gardens, which run alongside the Alcázar, separating Seville’s old town from the southern part of the city. These lush gardens are bursting with flowers and greenery for a reason—they once belonged to the Alcázar itself… In 1862, a small section was gifted to the city to open up the neighbourhood and make it more pleasant. The gardens were later redesigned for the Universal Exhibition by landscape architect Juan Talavera, who added ceramic decorations, pergolas, and archaeological features. At the center, you’ll find a monument to Christopher Columbus, unveiled in 1921, also for the Ibero-American Exposition. The main walkway is named after Catalina de Ribera, a generous patron of the city, while the gardens honour the Sevillian painter Murillo, who was born just around the corner.
