Jimi, Janis, and Jerry Mural

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit San Francisco, The Summer of Love
I’ll leave you to admire the three stars of the neighborhood on one side, the three Js: Jimi, Janis and Jerry, and the evolutionary rainbow on the other. This rainbow was painted by Joanna Zegri in ’67, when she was the building’s business manager. Each color shows the animal evolution from protozoan to modern times. In 1982, the new owner painted over Joanna’s rainbow. What a disgrace! There were so many petitions, complaints and protests that he had to call the artist and ask her to repaint it. San Francisco’s painted murals are part of the family, or at least part of the heritage.
