Buena Vista Park

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit San Francisco, The Summer of Love
Here, you find yourself in the oldest park in town. It was founded in 1867 under the name “Hill Park”, refering to the 175-meter-tall hill it is located on. In 1894, the park is renamed “Buena Vista”, which translates to “great view” from Spanish. It alludes to the numerous viewpoints that this park offers. After the terrible earthquake and fire of 1906, residents sought shelter in the park, while watching their city burn for days. During the Summer of Love, the park was well garnished with leafy trees and bushes, which made it the ideal place to meet people fond of free love. However, the inhabitants started deserting the park, which ultimately fell into abadonment in the 70s. In the early 80s, the situation became even worse. Buena Vista got a bad reputation, it was said to be a drug hub, and a place to avoid. But do not worry, since then, everything went back to normal. The town launched a $2 million plan to transform the place. It is to this day the third largest park in town, and one of the most pleasant. I won’t force you to go all the way up, but I would advise you to! The different belvederes offer stunning viewpoints of town, and even of the Golden Gate Bridge!
