You’ve now reached the entrance to Clarion Alley. The CAMP, Clarion Alley Mural Project is an organization born in the 90s, which has supported the realization of over 700 socially engaged murals. Their vision is wonderfully encapsulated in the message left on the mural known as, Rigo 23. It reads as follows: “Inspired by Balmy Alley and determined to build more autonomy, a group of us got together, spoke to our neighbors, went to City Hall and Clarion alley began its journey as a place that wants to be free. A place where culture and dignity speak louder than the rules of private property. There’s respect in our rebellion, there’s struggle in our hearts (last sentence translated from Spanish). It’s now 2012, it was then 1992. Building a better future is a full-life job.” It is now an integral part of the Mission District’s street-art circuit. Clarion Alley attracts over 200,000 tourists a year.
