Castro theatre

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit San Francisco, Open and Engaged city
Mythical and emblematic, this is the magnificent Castro Theater. Financed in 1922 by the Nasser brothers, its architecture is based on the Spanish Colonial Baroque style. Its architect, Timothy L. Pflueger, also designed the sublime Art Deco style Paramount Theater, emblem of the rise of the film industry in the late 1920s. Listed as a historic monument, the Castro Theatre is one of the oldest still active movie theaters in the United States. It also hosts festivals, shows and premieres. If you’ve got an evening to spare, why not come back to watch a movie and admire the interior of these cinemas, which in their day were designed to be as grand as operahouses. You can admire the carved leather ceiling, perhaps one of the last in the world, and the incredible organ built by Ray Taylor in ’79 with parts from all over the world. It has been playing an introduction at every screening ever since its creation. But above all, to come and see a movie at the Castro is to dive into an eccentric atmosphere where the audience is an integral part of the experience. If the film is a sing-along, be prepared, people are going to sing at the top of their lungs! That’s an evening you won’t forget!
