Text version

San Francisco is one of those cities you can love even without having ever set a foot there.  Deep down you just know, you’re going to fall in love with its suspended bridge, colorful Victorian houses and old-school tramway that climbs up streets so steep you can see the bay sparkling below. San Francisco is in a league of its own, both in the United States and in our own minds, as it conveys so many positive images: tolerant, open, dynamic, social, caring, inspiring, creative and artistic. First founded by the Spanish, then reclaimed by the Mexicans, it finally became independent. It is the capital of the gold rush, birthplace of Levi’s jeans, headquarters of Apple, Tesla, Facebook, Google and many others. San Francisco is a city that has always had a magnetic appeal. So let yourself be guided, let yourself be charmed, and you’ll never want to leave again!

If you rented a car to visit Western American, and if you finish your trip in San Francisco, I could only recommand you take the car back to the dealership. Contrary to Los Angeles, San Francisco is a city where everything is accessible by foot or by public transportation. However, if you have a vehicle, you should definitely try to find a hotel with a parking lot. You should also know that you can park on the streets, but be careful about the signs and land markings, that are different depending on the streets. Last but not least, turn your wheels towards the sidewalk, otherwise you will get fined !

information about your visit

In order to not miss anything in San Francisco, you have to stay minimum 3 full days. Ideally, you can spend 4 nights on site.

Weather

Do not let the Sunny Californian image fool you ! San Francisco has a micro climate, consisting of fog and the fresh air of the surrounding hills.
The optimal time to visit San Francisco is from April to October. Be careful, in July and August, fog is omnipresent.
The warmest températures are between 23°C in June and 25°C in September. Winter remains quite moderate with an 15°C average temperature.

Currency

In the USA, the american dollar is used.
You can exchange a bit of money upon leaving your home, to cover the first expenses, or you can start exchanging once you have arrived.
Be careful though, as exchange rates are usually higher in airports, be sure to wait until you’re in downtown. You don’t have to exchance money, you can also withdraw money from ATMs, but you will be charged extra : higher rates and bank fees, usually about $2-3. Another option is to pay directly with your credit card. Each transaction will be taxed with the according exchange rate and the fees of your bank. Make sure to inquire about the fees of such operations before choosing which option suits you best !
in any case, be sure to tell your bank about your trip in order to avoid unpleasant surprises.
