Trinity Church
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Salzburg, Meeting Mozart
On Makartplatz, you’ll spot the striking Trinity Church, the largest church in Salzburg’s historic center.
Built between 1694 and 1702, its design was inspired by Rome’s Sant’Agnese in Agone. The renowned architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach was responsible for bringing this baroque masterpiece to life, and its impressive dome can be seen from various points across the city.
Step inside if you have a moment, it’s well worth it. The church is best known for the stunning fresco painted inside its dome, where the Virgin Mary is shown being crowned by the Holy Trinity, assisted by the archangel Michael.
Be sure to look up to take it all in! If you look closely around the church, you might also come across the “book of intentions,” where visitors leave personal hopes and worries, offering a quiet moment of reflection.
From its elegant exterior to its richly adorned interior, this church is a true baroque gem in the heart of Salzburg.
