This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Salzburg, Meeting Mozart

On your right stands Salzburg’s former City Hall. The city built this grand structure in the 14th century to house its municipal offices, at a time when having a town hall was a symbol of power and prestige.

Over the centuries, it was expanded in the 16th century, renovated in the 17th, and altered again in the 18th, giving it the elegant Rococo façade and the distinctive tower you see today.

If you want a better view, take a stroll down Sigmund-Haffner Street right across from it. The building served as City Hall until 1947, when the mayor moved into the Mirabell Palace.

These days, it houses a gallery, meeting rooms, and of course, its striking architecture continues to impress everyone who walks by.
