Poissonnerie Square

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Saint-Malo, All hands on deck !
Here you are at the “Marc’had Pesked” – pardon my Breton – here’s the Fish Market! This market no longer sells anything, but its timber frame, carved with geometric fish is worth a look! The entrance is guarded by a sculpture called the “Orbiche,” representing a small shark known as a dogfish. All around, on the beams, for those who appreciate rhymes in doorways, the fish whisper to us: “La mer nous porte, La marée nous déporte, Le pêcheur nous emporte, C’est ici qu’il m’apporte!”
In french it rhymes but it roughly translates as: The sea carries us; The tide carries us away; The fisherman takes us; It’s here that he brings me!
