Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Rouen, Normandy’s number-Rouen on the Seine

Built on the site where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake back in 1979, this church is unlike any other in the city. It stands out from the crowd thanks to its bold, contemporary architectural style, which is nonetheless traditional. Yes, you heard that right! Like many Norman religious buildings, the Church of St Joan of Arc was built to look like an upside-down boat, reminiscent of Viking ships. And if you look closer at the roof, you’ll notice how the slate and copper tiles look like fish scales. Ocean theme all the way! While the exterior is in keeping with the region’s heritage, the interior holds its own treasures. On the north wall of the church, you’ll find 13 stained-glass windows dating from the 16th century. They were made from stained glass salvaged from an earlier church destroyed in 1944. A brilliant example of upcycling that has breathed new life into this landmark, listed as a historical monument since 2002.
