Trevi Fountain

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Rome, From the Trevi Fountain to the Vatican
Rome counts over 400 fountains, but, of course, the Trevi Fountain is the real star of the show! With dimensions like that, it’s no wonder you’re impressed! Measuring 20 meters wide and 26 meters high, it’s Rome’s biggest fountain, tucked away in the back alleys behind the Palazzo Poli. So, yes, it’s gonna be crowded! The Trevi Fountain is considered one of the most beautiful fountains in the world, or at least in Italy, and has been featured in numerous films such as La Dolce Vita and Roman Holiday. Built in the 18th century by architect Nicola Salvi, it attracts some 12 million tourists a year! That’s the entire population of Belgium! Crazy, right? You probably know this already, but it’s customary to throw a coin into the fountain over your left shoulder. If you throw one, you’ll come back to Rome, if you throw two you’ll find love, and if you throw three you’ll soon get married! Or so the story goes… Can you guess how much money is thrown into this fountain every year? The city collects (drumroll) over 1.5 million euros annually, which goes either to charity or to the upkeep of the fountain. And it’s all coins!
