Municipal Theatre

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Roanne, A rich history of craftsmanship on the banks of the Loire
In the heart of the Town Hall Square, which hosts the annual Christmas market and music festival, you’ll find a very special building: the Municipal Theatre. At the end of the 19th century, the people of Roanne petitioned for the construction of an authentic theatre in the town, where they could attend performances. This project was assigned to architect Barberot in 1883. The theatre was inaugurated in 1885 with a performance of Rossini’s Barber of Seville. Nowadays, it still offers a wide range of shows, including theatre, dance, circus, puppets and music. The Italian-style auditorium is magnificent. If you have some spare time, feel free to come and see a performance in this major cultural venue in Roanne, which was renovated and restored in the 1980s. It’s a great opportunity to discover the beautiful interior decor, particularly the dome, which features painted canvases and the town’s motto: Crescam et Lucebo, meaning ‘I will grow and I will shine’.
