Medieval fresco

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Roanne, A rich history of craftsmanship on the banks of the Loire
This fresco takes us straight back to medieval times. In the Middle Ages, Roanne was known by its Roman name, Rodumna. In the 11th century, its castle was built, of which all that remains today is the keep, on your left. This fresco was created in 2005 by the 7th Sense collective, who reproduced the façade of a medieval building, featuring old stonework, arches, balconies and windows. The typical characters of the Middle Ages such as a knight, a flute player and a damsel are clearly visible. However, the two children at the very bottom are clearly from our own era. A lovely tromp l’oeil decorating Castle Street that nods to medieval Roanne!
