Market Square

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Roanne, A rich history of craftsmanship on the banks of the Loire
This is the heart of Roanne’s city centre known as Market Square. As its name suggests, every Tuesday and Friday morning it hosts the stalls of numerous local producers who showcase all the delicious flavours the town has to offer! As traders and locals mingle, this square comes alive. It replaced a former convent that stood here until the French Revolution, and even in those days, the site hosted a market twice a week. Nowadays, it’s a charming square with colourful shutters, featuring a beautiful mansion called Maison Déchelette at No. 16, and a Louis XVI-style building dating from 1900 at No. 17.
