Saint-Georges Swimming pool

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Rennes, Queen Of Britanny
It isn’t every day that we stop to see the public swimming pool of the town we’re visiting! Quite frankly, it is impressive, it even was voted 8th best pool in the world! This beautiful Art Deco building from the 20s brings an undeniable artistic touch to the district. It is renowned for its fresco, made by artist Odorico in Briare Tiles (a type of Enamel mosaic). This mosaist born in Rennes came from a long line of italian artists; where this form of art was more common than in France. By setting up in Rennes, the Odorico family has marked the city with its influence, leaving behind numerous mosaics, and as many masterpieces! Saint- George Pool, inaugurated in 1926, is still active! It is one of Rennes’ most beloved buildings, and was listed as a historic monument in 2016. One year later, during the “Tombées de la Nuit” summer festival, Saint George pool was adorned with a gigantic Moon of 7 meters of diameter, that allowed the pool to once again rise to the top of rankings for craziest designs! The place sometimes turns into a theater or a cinema, with a giant screen on top of the basin, to see a movie in the most original way possible. If you are curious, do not hesitate to push open the door and to ask to visit it.
