Saint-Georges street

19 rue saint georges rennes poi grand

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Rennes, Queen Of Britanny

You’re on rue Saint-Georges, along with rue du Chapitre, this typical Rennes street is the one with the most timber-framed facades. Completely spared by the Great Fire, Saint-George street is part of a vast project of renovation of the historic center: the Bonne Kozh project. It safeguards Old Rennes’ emblematic historical heritage. This street is still marked by an irregular medieval layout. It was a major road inside the ramparts, and lead from Saint George Gate, which doesn’t exist anymore, to the Abbey of the same name, founded in the 11th century. The house at no. 3 is by far the widest and the most impressive house of the street : it is named Hotel de la Moussaye. During the 17th century, the street was booming with the installation of the Parliament and the arrival of parliamentarians, who built mansions nearby. Today, Saint-George street is filled with cafés, restaurants and boutiques, and mixes skillfully topicality, conviviality and paved streets.
