Chapter Gate

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Reims, The martyr city
We will now go through the Chapter gate, recognisable by its two turrets and its architecture that distinguishes it from adjacent buildings. Dating back to the 16th century, it once led to the courtyard of the Cathedral Chapter, a college of canons attached to the cathedral who attended to community life matters. Although the Chapter was abolished during the French Revolution, traces of its existence can still be seen, notably this door that will lead you to the Chapter Square and then to the cathedral. Just step inside and you’ll see! The cathedral was damaged during the war, but was rebuilt and moved forward to keep in line with the other buildings. It has, of course, been listed as a historic monument in the town.
