Saint Nicholas Church (Old Town)

Easily noticable thank to its white façade and green rooftops, this is St. Nicholas Church. Different from the one in Malá Strana, it has stood here in Old Town Square for 800 years. The most remarkable feature of this Baroque masterpiece is its massive dome, reaching 79 meters in height, lantern included. It’s so high that even its two bell towers struggle below—just a meter away. In 1920, the Czechoslovak Hussite Church was founded here, a religious movement whose principles stand between Catholicism and Protestantism. Contrary to what you would initially think, this religious building hasn’t been a place of worship since 1787. It now hosts classical music concerts and even tightrope performances—quite a surprising transformation for such a historic site. Step inside to enter a world full of stunning light effects, with a beautiful 1,400 kg crystal chandelier in the middle. A true jewel, this extraordinary piece was a gift from Tsar Nicholas II of Russia at the end of the 19th century. Trust me, it’s a true gem!
