Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Prague, Back to Praguer roots
Before starting, I challenge you to take a full photo of this building! You’ll see, it’s not easy! Spanning over 13,600m², so more than a rugby field, this giant is the National Museum of Prague. A symbol of the Czech cultural revival. Along with the State Opera, it dominates Wenceslas Square since 1890. On each of its floors, you’ll find so many different collections, making it a treasure trove of history and natural wonders. To the point that even temporary exhibitions are complemented by additional thematic displays, aiming to present as many objects as possible. From zoology, mineralogy, and anthropology to prehistoric artifacts and numismatic collections, several universes collide here, telling the story of our planet and mankind. Beneath its grand central dome, you’ll also find the National Pantheon, home to statues of Czech historical, political, and cultural figures. A memory box of the world’s past, the National Museum has witnessed many key historical events. Look closely at its main façade, you’ll notice bullet holes. These came from Soviet tank fire during the Prague Spring, when Czechoslovakia sought liberation from communist control.
