Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Prague, Back to Praguer roots

In case you don’t know where to sleep tonight, this is a legendary address in Prague. Located on the city’s main road, Hotel Evropa is still as great and radiant as during its early days. Built in 1905, it quickly became a meeting place for the elite, both from Czech society and Europe. Providing elevators, hot water, and central heating, the hotel was remarkably ahead of its time. Originally called Grand Hotel Šroubek in 1924, it was named after its second owner. It thrived thanks to its well-trained staff and an ever-growing list of extravagant services. This luxurious setting attracted famous cultural figures, such as Franz Kafka, a great writer from the 20th century, who chose the hotel to present one of his final works. But the place also caught the eye of many film directors, using its interiors for their movies. The hotel’s Art Deco restaurant has appeared in many films, including Mission Impossible and Titanic, serving as a dining room of the famous cruise. What an honor to be recruited by Hollywood! However, in 1951, the hotel was seized by the communist  government, marking the beginning of its decline. Over the years, the structure is gradually left in ruins, and its once-glorious reputation faded.Privately owned since 1989, then bought in 2020, Hotel Evropa now belongs to a luxury American hotel chain.
